Aberdeen gears up for more sporting success

Aberdeen will again provide a backdrop for two major sporting events this year.

Cycling’s Tour Series returns on Thursday, May 17, and the Great Aberdeen Run on Sunday, August 26.

Last year thousands of people watched dozens of professional cyclists race on city centre streets, while the Great Aberdeen Run drew almost 8,000 participants.

Aberdeen City Council is again supporting the Great Aberdeen Run.

City Council Co-leader Councillor Douglas Lumsden said: “Our role as a council is to drive the growth of the city’s economy and events represent a major part of our ambitions.”

Russell Borthwick, chief executive of Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce, said: “Thousands of spectators line the routes at both events to cheer on participants and feedback from the organisers was that our city provided a perfect backdrop.”
