Broad Street will be used as an event space for the first time this weekend after undergoing a £3.2 million transformation as part of the City Centre Masterplan.
It will host a live music stage, with acts due to appear from 1pm on Saturday and 12.30pm on Sunday.
A range of festivities are planned for the weekend, including a Union Street parade and the Simplyhealth Great Aberdeen Run on August 26.
Aberdeen City Council Co-leader, Councillor Jenny Laing said: “With thousands of runners participating in the run, and hundreds of families in the family run, the city will be alive with activity and excitement.
“We are especially excited to see the new Broad Street area in use for the first time.”
The musical entertaintment, which will extend across the city, has been organised by voluntary group Celebrate Aberdeen.
On Saturday, a third sector parade will take place on Union Street, where a mile-run is being staged by Sport Aberdeen.
Celebrate Aberdeen founder Morven Mackenzie said: “We have more voluntary organisations than ever taking part in our Saturday morning parade and the entertainment line-up is fantastically diverse again this year.”
Performers will be located along the route of The Simplyhealth Great Aberdeen Run.
Eric Wilkins, chief operating officer at The Great Run Company, said: “We are thrilled to be bringing the Great Run experience back to Aberdeen for a second year and this vibrant city will provide an impressive backdrop.”
A core project of the City Centre Masterplan, the Aberdeen 365 event strategy promotes partnership working.
