Children are being encouraged to get set for a healthy lifestyle as part of the countdown to The Simplyhealth Great Aberdeen Run.
The event, now in its third year, will return on Sunday 25 August, offering participants the choice of half marathon or 10k route as well as a Family Fun Run.
As part of the build-up, children are being invited to complete a half marathon distance – 13.1 miles – by covering lots of shorter distances over the summer holidays and adding them together.
The fun non-competitive Aberdeen Activity Challenge can be completed at their own pace, in their own time, wherever they want.
A tracker, available to download, shows how close participants are getting to the “finish line” as the distances are added together.
Once the challenge has been completed a certificate recognising the achievement can be also be downloaded.
The Simplyhealth Great Aberdeen Run is staged by the organisers of the Simplyhealth Great North Run, the world’s biggest half marathon.
It is delivered in partnership with Aberdeen City Council, VisitAberdeenshire, Aberdeen Inspired, Aberdeen Chamber of Commerce and is supported by the Aberdeen City Centre Masterplan.
Councillor Marie Boulton, Aberdeen City Council’s culture spokesperson, said: “The Great Aberdeen Run is one of many events on our summer schedule and is part of our wider Aberdeen 365 events strategy, a City Centre Masterplan initiative, which will see events such as The Tour of Britain bringing the streets of Aberdeen to life.”
