The City Centre Masterplan envisages Aberdeen as a ‘cycling city’.
It aims to ‘create a safe cycling environment that is free of traffic as far as practically possible’ that would be ‘well integrated with city wide routes’. Projects proposed include Cycle highways; Cycle hire scheme; and Cycle hubs.
The Masterplan stresses the health and economic benefits that would flow.
The redesign of Broad Street was supported by sustainable transport charity Sustrans.
Long term plans for Union Street (pictured above) include pedestrian priority measures while continuing to accommodate cyclists.
